“The secret things belong to the Lord our God, but the things revealed belong to us and to our children forever that we may follow all the words…”. -Deuteronomy 29:29
There is so much in this world that is beyond our understanding and beyond our control. Your mental well-being depends on your ability to discern the difference between what belongs to God and what belongs to you.
If you find yourself troubled in life, you must ask, “Does this belong to God or to me?” If it is out of your control, or out of your ability to know, then it belongs to God. It is not for you to worry about. If your concern lies within something God revealed through Scripture, then it is your responsibility to “follow all the words” of God’s guidance in Scripture.
For example, “Will I get the promotion?” That is largely out of your control. You cannot force the outcome. You cannot know the outcome as you wait. This clearly belongs to God. You can, however, know what God has revealed to you. You can know that God desires for you to work hard, as though working for Him directly. You can know that God wants you to walk upright, honoring Him with all your work decisions. These things were revealed for you that you would “follow all the words” in the Scriptures.
Instead of worrying about what belongs to God, focus on what belongs to you. That will give your mind something to do, but that will also usually put you in the place for the best outcome, even if the result is something outside of your power.
